Stability of Second Generation Grubbs Alkylidenes to Primary Amines: Formation of Novel Ruthenium-Amine Complexes
نویسندگان
چکیده
The stability of second generation Grubbs alkylidenes to primary amines relative to the first generation derivatives is investigated. For both Grubbs alkylidene derivatives, the tricyclohexylphosphine (PCy3) ligand is displaced by n-butylACHTUNGTRENNUNGamine and diethylenetriamine. However, while displacement of PCy3 in first generation Grubbs alkylidene derivatives results in decomposition of the catalyst, the N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) ligand in second generation derivatives is not displaced by primary amines present in up to 100 equivalents. The result is the formation of new stable rutheniumamine complexes. These complexes are characterized and their catalytic activity is evaluated in ring-closing metathesis (RCM) and ring-opening metathesis (ROMP) reactions. While the amine complexes evaluated were minimally active in RCM reactions, the ruthenium-butylamine complex was significantly active in ROMP and exhibited an initiation rate constant that was at least an order of magnitude greater than that of the second generation Grubbs alkylidene from which it was synthesized.

Novel ruthenium(II) complexes were obtained as a result of a stoichiometric reaction of Grubbs' benzylidene second generation catalysts with 3-nitropropene. These stable complexes, formally ruthenaisoxazole N-oxide derivatives, display activity in both metathesis and non-metathetic processes such as cycloisomerisation, isomerisation and transfer hydrogenation.

First, Schiff base iminopyridine ligand has been prepared by the condensation between primary amine, dimethylaniline and active carbonyl group of pyridine carboxaldehyde, then related complexes were synthesized in methanol solution. The ligand and metal complexes have been characterized by elemental analysis, UV, IR, 1 H NMR and 13CNMR spectroscopy. The spectroscopic data of metal complexes ind...
متن کاملDehydrogenative Synthesis of Imines from Alcohols and Amines Catalyzed by a Ruthenium N-Heterocyclic Carbene Complex
A new method for the direct synthesis of imines from alcohols and amines is described where hydrogen gas is liberated. The reaction is catalyzed by the ruthenium N-heterocyclic carbene complex [RuCl2(IiPr)(p-cymene)] in the presence of the ligand DABCO and molecular sieves. The imination can be applied to a variety of primary alcohols and amines and can be combined with a subsequent addition re...
متن کاملPhase Tags in the Recycling of Homogeneous Grubbs Catalysts
Since they were first synthesized in 1992, the ruthenium catalyst named after Nobel Laureate R. H. Grubbs have become a useful tool in organic synthesis. Compared to conventional heterogeneous metathesis catalysts, Grubbs catalysts are more reactive, faster to initiate and better for reaction control. Grubbs catalysts have been employed in good effort both in academia and industry, the later in...
متن کاملSelective alkylation of (hetero)aromatic amines with alcohols catalyzed by a ruthenium pincer complex.
A readily available pincer ruthenium(II) complex catalyzes the selective monoalkylation of (hetero)aromatic amines with a wide range of primary alcohols (including pyridine-, furan-, and thiophene-substituted alcohols) with high efficiency when used in low catalyst loadings (1 mol %). Tertiary amine formation via polyalkylation does not occur, making this ruthenium system an excellent catalyst ...
